By Heather Sanders.
If you caught my Making Valentine’s Day Cards post at the tail-end of January, then you know I planned to share some of our Valentine’s Day card photos as we neared February 14th. With only two more days until the official Day of Love, now is as good a time as ever.
As you can see, we kicked off our card making with monsters. Though I realize monsters don’t thrill the hearts of everyone, I LOVE THEM. A bit of colored scrapbook paper, a pack of stickers, scissors and a glue stick kept me busy for quite some time. My mindset behind these were to have some handmade cards to offer the younger kids of some of our newest members at the Valentine’s Day party.
I keep wondering when mustaches and beards will no longer be the rage. Kenny purchased a number of kiss lips and mustaches for the sole purpose of making cards for his sisters and girl friends (not to be confused with girlfriends, of course).
He got a kick writing “Mustache Off!” on Em’s card, followed by a bunch of racing, mustache-heavy stick figures.
I didn’t have the heart to tell him that he wasn’t the first person to come up with this joke.
He personalized his cards specifically toward his friend’s interests. This particular card was for a friend who plays baseball.
Meredith joined in on the mustache frenzy, adding a bit of flair with paper hearts and a red pipe cleaner.
Most of her cards shared the same red, black and white theme. These two cards are for her best friend and Emelie.
More red, black and white for Izzy, her grandmother.
Peace signs and swirly ribbon for her cousin Olivia and a friend at co-op.
Emelie’s cards were much more subdued this year than they have been in the past. She picked a packet of papers and various stamp stickers.
She finished most of her cards off with a typewritten “Happy Valentine’s Day” from her old, but just-like-new, typewriter.
My first personalized card was for Jeff, of course. This is the front of the card.
And, this is the back of the card.
Enough said.
Like Emelie, I purchased a single, small packet of papers, so the color schemes of all my cards were pretty similar. These are the cards I made for my kids.
Kenny’s is a bit more feminine than I intended, but I wrote something super manly on the back. Y’know, like “Real men can handle getting pink cards from their Mommas.”
I probably will have to buy him extra Gummy Bears and Sour Patch Kids to pull this one off.
Liv got a card too. This was the front of hers.
And then, the back.
Just as we have done in year’s past, the kids and I made our own version of the Valentine’s Day Box cards that can be purchased at most of the big box super centers.
The kids posed with a heart in various positions and I just began popping off shots.
Though I thought they were all cute, I liked Meredith’s the best. That one eye sticking out cracks me up.
When I took the photos Emelie was still wearing her pajamas and had a bad case of cowlic-crazed bedhead. She thought hiding all but her smile was definitely the best approach.
I agreed.
And last, but certainly not least, is Olivia with her face scrunched-up, peering down at her Valentine’s Day message.
Each kid made enough of the homemade “box” cards to pass out to everyone who attended the party.
